LAMPS Class 3 Kandinsky Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian abstract artist who lived from 1866 to 1944. He claimed that when he saw colour, he heard music. Kandinsky, himself an accomplished musician, said colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonics, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul. Kandinsky associated tones of colour with timbre (the sound's character), hue with pitch, and saturation with volume. The paintings below were created by the pupils of LAMPS Class 3, in the style of Kandinsky. |
