LAMPS GovernorsOverview
'An effective governing body must have a clear sense of purpose and direction for its' school. The governing body is accountable to the school community and broader community for the effectiveness of the school. In its work the governing body will collaborate with and be questioning of, the Head and Staff, who are responsible for the day to day management and operation of the school.' The Governors meet at least once each half-term so that they can assure themselves that both the building and the educational process are functioning properly. The Governors report back to parents at a formal meeting held annually in the school. There are sub-committees that focus on the school and community, buildings and resources, staffing and curriculum, performance management, and appeals/complaints; these meet regularly to discuss budgets, policies and strategies. In addition, there are sub-committees for admissions, pay, and discipline, that meet as required. Individual Governors have special responsibilities for foundation subjects and other key issues such as equal opportunities, and special educational needs. The national GovernorNet website provides up-to-date information on all aspects of school governance.
