Furness Railway Tourism Postcards

These postcards were produced by the Furness Railway Company in the early 1900's to attract visitors to Furness and the Lake District. Each place featured can be visited via the railway station identified at the foot of the postcard. Under the leadership of General Manager Alfred Aslett, the Furness Railway was transformed from a run-down industrial line into a tourist line, that had a major impact on the development of the tourist industry in the Lake District. The Furness Railway Company operated steamers on Coniston and Windermere, and provided round-trips by charabanc for tourists wanting to venture further. The postcards on this page were printed by McCorquodale & Co Ltd, London.
