Lindal Postcards from the Early 1900s

Postcards by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd

These pictures are reproduced from a series of postcards of Lindal-in-Furness published by Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd, a London company that specialised in publishing greetings cards and postcards from the mid 1800s to early 1900s. The company is thought to have produced more than 15,000 different postcard designs altogether. Unfortunately, most of the company's records and original artworks were destroyed during the London bombing blitz of World War II. The company is no longer in business.

The pictures on this page are of real postcards that have been posted in the Royal Mail, several of which have a Lindal postmark. We would be very interested to hear from you if you know the whereabouts of any other examples of postcards in the series, or if you can provide any more detailed information about the series.

This postcard seems to be incorrectly captioned, although may not be completely wrong. The main building in the photo is the Buccleuch Hall, which we understand was used for the Sunday School.
