LAMPS School Council and BuddiesSchool CouncilThe pupils have their say in the running of the school. Each year group votes annually for a boy and a girl to represent them in the School Council. The School Council meets regularly to suggest improvements to the school, such as a new playshed and a buddy bench, now both installed in the playground. School Council members wear a badge so that they can be easily recognised. In the school's 2007 Ofsted report, the inspector made the following observation about the pupils: "They make a very significant contribution to the school community, for example through the busy School Council. Locally, pupils learn how to take on responsible roles in many events. Their excellent levels of personal development and outstanding academic achievement prepare them extremely well for the next stage of their education." BuddiesOther children are appointed as 'buddies' each week and are given a smiley face badge to wear. Their job is to keep an eye out for anyone sitting on the buddy bench who feels sad or lonely and needs a buddy to cheer them up. They can then sit on the bench and chat to that person, or invite them to play a game. Within the classroom, older pupils organise mathematics games or act as reading buddies for the younger children. This helps the younger children to learn, and helps the older pupils to develop social skills and self-confidence.
